Our compression socks and calf sleeves are designed to help prevent the occurrence of and guard against further progression of venous disorders such as edema, phlebitis, and thrombosis.

Compression can help to decrease venous pressure, prevents venous stasis and impairments of venous walls.

Who can benefit from wearing compression socks?

Anyone's legs can feel better while wearing gradient compression socks, especially if you spend a lot of time sitting, standing or in a sedentary position. They can make you feel more energized, 'light on your feet', and many athletes are confident that they improve their performance. Gradient compression socks can help the following leg complaints:

Tired, aching, heavy feeling legs
Leg swelling
Varicose veins
Venous insufficiency
Post-thrombotic syndrome
Healed venous ulcers
Active venous ulcers
Lymphedema

How do they work?

Compression socks are tightest at the ankles and gradually become less constrictive towards the knees. By compressing the surface veins, arteries and muscles, the circulating blood is forced through narrower circulatory channels. As a result, the arterial pressure is increased, which causes more blood to return to the heart and less blood to pool in the feet.

Is tighter better?

You should always get the compression rating that your health provider has recommended for you, tighter is NOT always better. There are lots of compression socks that do not have gradient compression. Uniform compression socks offer the same amount of compression to all parts of the leg, you will only feel the tightness while wearing them. Even worse is that it will hinder the blood circulation of legs and cause blood pooling at lower legs.

You must be careful when choosing compression socks! Get the graduated compression that you need.

What is gradient compression?

The pressure of the socks, measured by millimeters of mercury, is greatest at the ankle and decreases as it goes up the leg to help blood fight gravity. Different pressure strengths serve different needs.

"Dad's doctor suggested that he wear compression socks to help the circulation in his legs. The socks we found for him did not appeal to me. I disliked the commonly sold, thin nylon 'support hose'.

I thought it would be great to use cotton and have thicker socks for more comfort. We started with a cotton knee-high compression sock which had cushioned soles.

Our next step was to name our sock. It was harder than I thought to find a good name that wasn't already used and which was acceptable by the trademark office. Finally, I decided to try to use my grandchildren's names. I only have one child and he has three children, 4 year old Michael, 2 year old Cody, and newborn Emma. Writing the first two or three letters from each name I ended up with micodema."
